At Roundwood Park School we offer our students the opportunity to take part in a wide range of visits, field trips and excursions which support national curriculum studies and extra-curricular activities. Trips and visits include short day trips to places of interest as well as multi-day residential trips within the UK, Europe or even further afield. There are numerous one day trips to theatres, museums, art galleries and places of special interest such as the Ironbridge museum in Shropshire, where students explore the origins of Britain’s Industrial Revolution, or the National Space Centre, which gives pupil with an interest in the UK space sector or related industries an opportunity to meet inspirational scientists. Multi-day residential trips have taken our students to places further afield such as Geneva (Switzerland), to see the CERN particle accelerator first-hand, Berlin (Germany) to attend a street art workshop or to Iceland for an in depth insight into the country’s geography and economy. The Geography department runs several trips each year, ranging from day trip to College Lake, to a week in South Wales or alternatively visit India to study local culture and business. All students studying languages have the opportunity to apply their skills locally by joining trips to France, Germany and Belgium. In the autumn term, our new year 7 students are encouraged to participate in an adventure activity trip which aims to develop their team skills and encourages students to build new friendship groups. During our Activities Week towards the end of the academic year, the whole school, is engaged in special activities including day and residential trips as well as onsite project work. Additionally, Roundwood Park School runs a selection of extracurricular trips, such as day trips to a wide range of competitions, tournaments and matches, as well as residential trips such as our Netball Tour, a biennial Football Coaching Tour and our ever popular ski trip. These trips offer students the opportunity to build new skills or polish old ones whilst growing their independence.
The attached outline of planned trips gives an overview of the visits/trips we are planning to run this year (subject to change) and an estimate of associated costs. We hope that this will allow our parents to plan ahead and prioritise where appropriate. Please note that whilst some visits/trips are open to the entire school or specific year groups, others will be by invitation only. All our trips are subject to availability and may be allocated on a first come, first served basis unless stated otherwise in the trip’s information letter. We have built strong relationships with a selection of local charities which may be able to assist those families experiencing financial hardship. Please refer to the information letters that are sent out with all our trips for further information.
