Enrichment – Sport and Community Service
For one afternoon each week students are expected to engage in either a sporting activity or some form of community service.
During the Autumn Term the Year 13 Sports Prefects organise sporting activities on Wednesday afternoons for all of Year 12. Many of these are Inter-House competitions.
Roundwood Park is committed to helping the local community and students are encouraged to help in any way they can. All year 12 students spend one afternoon a week, during the Spring Term, helping as volunteers in our local community. In recent years students have been involved in teaching senior citizens to use a computer, helping in local primary schools, working in charity shops and visiting old peoples homes.
Activities organised in recent years include:
Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning
In October every year the Sixth Form join in with the Macmillan Worlds Biggest Coffee Morning. Staff and local residents are invited in and everyone enjoys biscuits, cakes and drinks.
Sponsored 24 hour Run
During the spring term each year the Sport Prefects organise a 24 hour run. For the Haiti Earthquake Appeal Sixth Form students organised a whole week of fund raising activities which resulted in a huge amount of money being raised to support the victims of the earthquake.
Tanzanian School Roof Fund
A group of students were so moved by the state of the school they visited on their World Challenge Expedition that they decided to raise enough money to pay for a new roof. Through a number of fund raising activities and bucket collects at the end of assemblies, they raised over a thousand pounds.
Wings of Hope
Roundwood Park School now offers Sixth Form students the opportunity to participate in the Wings of Hope children’s charity.
In groups of six, the students must set up a business, running various enterprises with 100% of all proceeds going to charity.
As part of the project they also get amazing opportunities to attend either work experience placements or talks given by top companies such as Saatchi & Saatchi.
